Choosing the Right Bracelet for You
Women come in all sizes and shapes. This is actually a delightful and glorious
manifestation of the Architect of Life’s wonders. And of Her sense of humor! Those of us who have been around for the many changes life brings – realize that over time, as individuals we ourselves may become many sizes and shapes!
As far as fitting into our jewelry is concerned, a bracelet can be a more adaptable fit, than say, a ring – but less than a necklace, and can certainly seem to shrink or grow more than those earrings we’ve always worn. But we do treasure our special bracelets, whether they are meant to dangle or hug the wrist; whether they are dainty and slender – or bulky cuff bracelets that insist on attracting attention.
Women have varying wrist lengths. Most are 7 ¼”. Some are smaller, some larger. If you are purchasing a new bracelet or refurbishing a loved piece, here’s how to determine your bracelet size:
First, take a soft flexible measuring tape and measure your wrist just below the wrist bone. Or, if you don’t have one, use a string or ribbon to mark the length and then measure that with a ruler. The result is your actual wrist measurement.
Next, add 1” for flexibility.
If you’re choosing a bracelet with large beads, add another ½ inch to allow for a more comfortable fit. This is the overall length of bracelet, including the clasp.
Bracelets are a special touch to any wardrobe. Sometimes they add a design element or make a statement; and sometimes they are more discreet than other jewelry, lending a more personal, on occasion, even meaningful pleasure to wearing them.
Bracelets make lovely gifts for cherubic baby girls and their (sometimes) new mom, and are even a thoughtful way to honor the grandmother. There is a wide selection of baby/mom name bracelets available, like the one to the right, for example.
If you’re buying one as a gift, look to see if it comes with an extender. I usually have a ½” extender on the bracelets I design. I also resize bracelets that my customers buy for gifts, at no extra charge, of course.
