Selecting Earrings to Flatter
What do you think is the most important part of your jewelry wardrobe? Earrings, of course! Earrings do more than just adorn your ears. Well chosen earrings can dangle seductively. They can communicate playfulness. Or they can convey authority, as do these coin shaped onyx stones paired with natural freshwater pearl earrings.
They can complete an outfit and they can create a visual diversion. Earrings draw attention to the face.
Whatever a woman’s style, personality or occasion; whether she has short or long hair or wears glasses – there are earrings that will flatter her face.
How do you choose the right earrings? There are several things you should consider. One is scale. Scale refers to the size of shape and space. It’s a comparative measure. That is, if a large shape is put next to a smaller one, the smaller shape looks smaller than if it were put next to one of a similar size. For example, a man’s waist looks smaller if he has wide shoulders and torso than if he had a narrow upper body.
A woman who gives the impression of being large boned can carry larger scaled jewelry, including earrings. A petite to small body can
wear pieces with fewer details and of a smaller scale. Larger jewelry will appear very dramatic or perhaps overwhelming on a smaller woman.
When it comes to ear shape, if a woman has prominent ears, or flat ears, big earlobes, or small, she will do best to wear earrings that take those into account. On smaller ears, delicate French wires will expose more surface of the ears, like the 14K gold filled ear wires on these dangling pearl and navy goldstone earrings. If she has large ears, she may want to choose earrings that cover the ear lobe, for instance a button style earring like these very fine 18K gold and diamond earrings.
If her ears are prominent, wide earrings are better than narrow styles. Earrings tend to refer to the shape of the face and can be used to maximize or minimize features. For instance, people look to the point at which earrings end, especially if the earrings are shiny and sparkling and have movement. If you want to focus maximum attention on the face, wear earrings no longer than your jawline. The 
nose is the most prominent feature on the face. Earrings with vertical emphasis repeat and emphasize vertical lines of the face, including the strongest vertical line, the nose. Where earrings are the same size and shape as the nose, the nose will appear more prominent. The scale and shape should be proportionate. If you have a large nose and mouth, your earrings, while not the same size as your nose, should not be dainty either. To create an illusion, if you wish to draw attention away from the nose, wear medium to large earrings, or cover the earlobes.
Other factors to consider when selecting earrings and necklaces too, are face shape and neck length. For example, if you have an average or long neck, you can wear choker length necklaces and long dangling earrings to great positive affect.
When selecting jewelry, and earrings in particular, remember to consider scale and shape for the most flattering fit!
