Menopause and MenoSense

I had to go for a full hysterectomy due to cancer so therefore right after surgery I would go into what they call ‘surgical menopause’. My OB wanted me to go on HRT which being a natural person I didn’t want to do.  So I started talking to other woman and doing my own research and went out an bought ‘MenoSense’ at my local health store. MenoSense is formulated by Lorna Vanderhaeghe and I started taking it as soon as I came home from the hospital and after 2 years I started to wean myself off of it. Now I would know when I was having a hot flash (I would feel warm but nothing like some woman experience) and after 2 yrs weaned myself off of them and haven’t had any issues what so ever.  My neighbour used this product, she went thru the usual menopause issues and she said it helped her to get thru the hot flashes and it also helped with the mood swings.
This is not your usual menopause story however thought some women might like to know what worked for me and my neighbour.

    I am 56 years old and have not had a period for 1 1/2 years. I had moderate night sweats and some minor hot flashes and was taking something called Change o Life and it seemed to work ok. I ran out and could not find it but instead found Menosense, so bought it. About 1 week after taking it my breasts became sore like I was going to start my period! Then two weeks later (yesterday) a full blown period! I read up on Dong Quai and found it to be a stimulates and relaxes the uterine muscles. I like not having menopause symptoms, but is this safe at my age…having a period! I sure don’t want one, I liked the fact I was DONE!

    I don’t blame you for being frustrated. Just when I think I’m finally over “the curse” after eight or ten months of bliss, WHAM. I even had a biopsy in June to make sure there was nothing seriously wrong. (Thankfully, all is well)

    Connie, I don’t blame you for not wanting a period again! I am not a doctor but have seen people go off of meds or even balance hormonal issues by making healthy lifestyle changes.

    There are so many products, and advice out there, it is hard to know what to do.

    You don’t mention your diet, stress levels, if you are able to get quality sleep or not, what else you may be taking, etc. All of these are important factors in trying to balance the body for a more healthy lifestyle.

    Dong quai is thought to provide a number of benefits to menopausal women (and has been used for centuries.) In particular, dong quai dilates our blood vessels and thereby increases our blood flow. This helps to relieve hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Additionally, this herb aids in regulating the levels of estrogen in your body, which also assists in relieving menopause symptoms. Moreover, dong quai is a mild sedative that will help reduce mood swings and stress related to menopause.

    Dong quai may increase the effects of these drugs, including warfarin (Coumadin), and raise the risk of bleeding. The same is true of using dong quai with the herbs listed below. Talk to your doctor before taking dong quai with any of the following:

    Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium)
    Garlic (Allium sativum)
    Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
    Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba)
    Ginseng (Panax ginseng)
    Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
    Chinese skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis)
    Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

    It looks like Change 0 Life has very little Dong quai or Black cohash – compared to the Menosense you switched to.

    I would say that the new product is providing too much estrogen or phyto estrogen for your body.
    You may be better trying something that is less estrogen.

    Instead of chasing symptoms as most of us do, we teach people about their body type, proper nutrition for their body type, a liver cleanse for hormone production, and correct exercise for the body type.

    It is all about healing the liver that the hormones are processed through. Most of us have a toxic body because of the food, water, environment, chemicals we are constantly exposed to and have been exposed to for years.

    I would like to know how long is it that you can safely take Menosense? I am currently taking only one a day and it seems to help. I have been taking it for about two years now ,but I just recently took a2 week break from it. I am a little scared about the liver toxicity I have heard about black cohosh. is it safe to take Menosense?

    Everyone’s body is different and reacts to even “natural” things differently. This site, http://menosense.com/ has some Q & A’s if you scroll down on the left side, then click on MenoSense.

    You are taking a much lower dosage than what is recommended on the bottle. If you have concerns, you could always stop and do a good liver cleanse anytime.

    Then see if you even need to go back to using the product. Like I said before in a previous response, most people need a liver cleanse because of years of toxins in the foods, water, air, etc. and so many things in our environment.

    By doing a good liver cleansing, it will help the hormones be able to be processed through the liver (as that is what happens). We have 6 fat burning hormones and 3 fat storing hormones – they all are processed through the liver, so the more effective your body can handle them, the better you will be in balance. Let me know if you need help finding a liver cleanse that will be effective and not be a waste of your time or money.

    Just starting taking Menosense one week ago….but since starting it I am full of gas….is this a normal side effect…it is very embarrassing. Any suggestions??

    Gertrude, this is the response from Sheri Goddard, “The Menopause Coach.”

    Although this brand of menopause treatment is slightly more expensive than other brands with similar ingredients, it is made by a well-established company and does use beneficial ingredients. Most consumers would likely prefer to see all the ingredients included in the formula and be offered a money back guarantee. Additionally, women should check with their health care provider in order to ensure Black Cohosh is safe for them to use.

    Black cohosh was used by Native Americans for centuries and the research I have done concludes it as safe by most. Here is what one doctor says about Black Cohosh:
    “I advise patients to rely on a trusted manufacturer and avoid combination products, whose safety has not been studied,” Dr. Low Dog added. Black cohosh can safely be taken continuously, twice a day, for six months at a time. After six months, women should reassess their symptoms and treatment needs as symptoms typically fluctuate throughout the multi-year menopausal process.” I am sure he is referring to Black Cohosh by itself (at least that is what it sounds like to me.) It is known to be effective treating hot flashes.
    I would not take Menosense, especially since the amounts are not listed. I would start with changing of my diet and exercise first, as my program offers. Something like that is covering up the symptoms, and not changing anything.

    Lynette, I would suggest that you write to the manufacturer of Menosense for that information, or talk to your physician. There has been so much interest in this product since the first article was published last year, but I have never used it myself, and rely on the opinions of more expert sources for our readers.     Question, I am currently taking the product Estroven and have been for 8 years after a hysterectomy. Even with taking the Maximum strength of Estroven, hot flashes and night sweats are bad, needless to say, not much sleep going on! I also take Stress B Formula plus 1000mg C. I am considering switching to this product. What is the amount of black cohosh used in this product? One more thing I tried soy-there was no relief! Age 52.

    Menosense works! I started using it twice a day and noticed relief from hot-flashes and night sweats the very first night. I read a lot of positive reviews before buying it myself. It does not contain soy as most of the other menopause products do and that was important to me because of a thyroid goiter. Good luck… hope this helps.

    Kelly, for sleep, try 1000mg B-12 methylcobalamin; this works directly on the brain and helps to regulate sleep patterns. I have first-hand knowledge that it works. The amount of black cohosh in MenoSense is 80mg. Dong Quai 100mg is the first ingredient listed, and I think it is the combination that works so well. Again, I hope this helps.

    I have hot flashes and sweats about every 2 hours. I was waking up also every 2 hours. I have been taking Menosense for about 6 weeks now. I am still having the hot flashes and sweats. I can sleep throughout the night though. Any suggestions on reducing the flashes and sweats. Thanks
