A Check-up on My Wellness

If you really want to be held accountable for something, tell the whole world your new goal. Now that I’ve begun this journey toward total wellness, I have to keep with it. What would you think of me if I quit now?

I am on a quest to defy the effects of menopause, and I have begun working with a wellness coach to achieve my goals. My coach Lucinda recommended that I use fitday.com to track my eating and exercise. I’ve used Weight Watchers a couple of times, but Fit Day is much more comprehensive in the feedback it gives regarding not only total calories eaten, but also the nutritional breakdown–carbs, fat and protein–plus how I compared each day to the RDA of the vitamins and minerals I should be getting. It shows my calories eaten vs. calories burned, tracks my weight compared to my goal,  breaks down the fat I consumed into saturated vs unsaturated, and shows all of the info in pie charts and graphs that are easy to understand. This is really where I can see if I’m getting enough protein in my diet. Best of all, it is a free program, and pretty easy to use. So I’m giving it a try to see if it will help me transform my diet into the one I should be eating for this “magical” stage of my life. So far, so good.

As far as my time management goals go, I’m doing better. I’ve been ordering my days to begin with quite time, then breakfast, then exercise (at least 4 days a week). Then I allow myself to get to the things that keep me busy throughout the day. I was amazed Friday at just how much I got done–after my morning ritual, I mowed the yard, did pool maintenance, bathed my dog, did laundry, worked on my new “social media” adventure, had lunch with a friend and cleaned my house. Not bad. My goal this week is to exercise more and get some of my piles of “stuff” put away, while focusing on developing a whole new social network of women over 50 in Austin. I’m motivated and excited!

More to come. Plus I have another appointment with Lucinda this Wednesday. Revisiting goals, more encouragement, and more accountability. Exactly what I need. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
