We’re getting connected.

Did you know?
- That women over 50 are the fastest-growing sector in social media? More of us are using Facebook and Twitter, and we are connecting with people more than ever. Women are using Facebook to set up family groups, friend groups, and business pages.
- There are some 200 million bloggers, half of them Tweet daily, and 34% of them comment on products or give reviews about places they’ve been or services they’ve used. So you can find peer reviews for just about anything you want.
- That 96% of the “Generation Y” adults (the children of the baby boomers) use some form of social media. Most of them are replacing email communication with Facebook, Twitter and Texting (yes, “texting” is now a word in the dictionary). No wonder my son seldom responds to my emails.
- That 20% of all Tweets are comments about brands? And that 78% of all consumers search for peer recommendations before purchases?
This makes my head spin!
So I have a Facebook account and I’m embarking on a blog, but I have no idea how to “tweet” with Twitter. I would love to know how to set up different groups on my Facebook page–one for family connections, one for friends, one for professional use– and how to post meaningful information for others to see via Twitter. I really don’t care if someone is sitting on their back porch drinking coffee, or what they are eating for lunch. What I would love to know is where there is a new place for a great dinner, a good cup of coffee, or to buy fun clothes. I think I have some great tips to share myself.
And how do I make this blog relevant and interesting?
Since I’m a “hands-on” learner, I’ve signed up to go to a seminar, the first in a series, on “Getting Started with Facebook and Twitter.” The gals teaching this series KNOW social media. And they will teach everything from the basics–setting up a Facebook page–to how to write a blog and keep it interesting. Right up my alley! Why don’t you join me?
